On-Line Tax Free Purchases May Become a Thing of the Past

New York 11/02/2011 08:32 PM GMT (WooEB)

On-line companies like Amazon and Overstock.com have been selling items over the internet without collecting state taxes for years. And states have been fighting this for as long, because they feel it deprives them of much needed revenue. A bill backed by two Republican Senators will require that these on-line retailers pay state taxes.

Other retailers like Best Buy and Wal-Mart are already required to collect tax revenue from on-line customers and they back the new legislation. Most states have a use tax which requires residents claim out of state internet purchases when they file their state income tax returns, but they contend that many taxpayers instead pocket the savings.

Amazon seems to be on board with the new legislation and has signaled they will support the new bill.

The tax codes for each state can be difficult to understand and retailers who clarification of the tax laws in their state can see a tax attorney to explain how the new ruling would impact their  business and out of state customers.

In addition to helping people understand local and federal tax codes, tax lawyers have the ability to assist people with criminal charges like tax evasion and avoidance.

If you are an individual or a business, a tax attorney will be able to help you with all of your tax related needs, whether they are negotiating with the IRS or decoding our complicated tax system.
