Nissan has announced a service campaign that involve about 200,000 Altimas to fix a potential suspension issue. The purpose of the campaign is to avoid a full blown recall. The service campaign will address the ‘Salt Belt’ in both 2013 and 2014 model years in Canada. The NHTSA is investigating 2M+ vehicles. The issue involves risk corrosion that could cause a suspension part to detach from the frame in states that use salt on icy roads. To date, 139 complaints have been filed with the federal agency in connection with this issue. At the time of publication, there are no known incidents or injuries involving the defective part.

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) which previously offered free unlimited supercharging for some of its electric vehicles is bringing back the popular incentive to help increase sales of its more expensive models, the Model S Sedan and Model X SUV. 

All new Model S and Model X vehicles will come with free unlimited access to its network of electric vehicle chargers, known as superchargers. In the early days of Tesla, free charging was part of the package when buying a Tesla vehicle. However, in January of 2017, vehicles purchased after January 1, of 2017 only received 400 kilowatt hours of charging. Tesla has brought back this popular perk hoping to get people who were on the fence about purchasing a Tesla to make the switch and also attract new business. The free unlimited super charger referral program is now set to end September 18 2019.

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is already known for its high performance, all electric, semi-autonomous vehicles. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has set an aggressive deadline for Tesla vehicles to achieve full-self-driving capabilities, and just hinted about a secret project that could make the difference in the race to fully self driving cars, “Project Dojo” During Tesla’s Autonomy Day, which happened earlier this year, Tesla Execs and Musk gave presentations about what the company was trying to do to achieve complete autonomous technology by the end of next year. Last weekend, Musk was asked about the secret project, which we now know is Project Dojo. Musk explained during Autonomy Day that ‘Dojo “ … is asuper powerful training computer. The goal of Dojo will be to be able to take in vast amounts of data and train at a video level and do unsupervised massive training of vast amounts of video with the Dojo program – or Dojo computer.” All of Tesla’s vehicles currently offer some level of autonomous driving from the entry level Model 3 to the Model S Sedan and Model X SUV.

Volkswagen is recalling nearly 28,000 vehicles which includes the CC Model and the Tiguan SUV. The affected vehicles are: 2015-2016 Tiguan (March 12, 2015-December 19, 2015) and 2015-2016 CC (May 6, 2015 and December 17, 2015). The recall is over the airbag control module which tells the airbag what to do and when. Because the airbag control model has a faulty capacitor, it can cause the airbag to function incorrectly, or not at all, or when not necessary. Volkswagen receives its first notice of a single field case in late 2017. Following the first case, another case came in 2018 and the supplier ZF/TRW found something was amiss. a third case was reported in late 2018 and Volkswagen then decided the defect was worth a recall. Affected vehicles will be repaired at the dealership but the fix is more complex than other problems. Technicians will provide a software update to the vehicles to determine if the capacitor is defective and if it is, Volkswagen will replace the module. Consumers should check to see if their Volkswagen is included in the recall by calling their local Volkswagen Dealer. Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is fixing a potentially dangerous bug with ‘Dog Mode’ a feature that Tesla cars have that is designed to keep the cabin temperature at a safe levels when animals are in the vehicle. Electric cars are notoriously quiet and it is often difficult to tell if the electric vehicle is on. With more and more people, including police officers, rescuing animals from over-heating cars, it can be difficult to determine whether or not the AC is running an in electric vehicle. For that reason, Tesla released a ‘Dog Mode’ software feature which keeps the cabin temperature controlled and displayed a message on the giant screen that the dog owner would return shortly and displayed the cabin temperature. However, one Tesla owner found out that if the fan speed is manually changed, the ‘Dog Mode’ does not activate in the car.
