Tesla Inc. (NASDAQL TSLA) which has had a rocky first half of 2019 in terms of stock market performance has likely sold nearly 3x the amount of electric vehicles in May than its main competitors did. combined. The figures are estimates that were led by Adam Jonas and analysts at Morgan Stanley based on industry estimates since Tesla does not report on monthly sales figures. With this estimate, Tesla is to have likely sold roughly 11,300 vehicles in the US in May alone, which comes out to about 2.6x as many as the combined sales of Nissan Motor Company, General Motors Company, BMW AG, Audi Brand, and Volkswagen. While Tesla stock has been plunging since the start of the year, it does not seem consumers are giving up their deserve for the more-affordable-entry-level Model 3 or the higher end Tesla Model S or X.
NHTSA To Investigate If GM Recall Over 1.4 Million Vehicles To Fix Dangerous Seat Belts Was Effective
General Motors recalled over 1.4 million of its vehicles which included the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook SUVs with model years of 2009 to 2014 over a seatbelt issue. The flexible steel cable connecting the front seat bels of the vehicle could separate which would result in the potential to not restrain the passenger in the event of a crash. GM dealers were to inspect cables and replace as necessary if the vehicle was determined to have the defective part. However, one of the complaints that came from a man in Dayton, Ohio had said that the seat belt had snapped when his wife was fastening it, even though it had been recalled in 2014. Chevrolets response to the issue was that it was “normal wear and tear.” NHTSA has said that it will now assess the effectiveness of the recall and evaluate the durability of the cables that were supposedly replaced.
Volvo Issues Recall On Some S60 Sedans For The 2019 Year Model That Were Assembled At Berkeley Co. Plant
Volvo has announced today that some of its 2019 S60 Sedans could be impacted by the recall. The vehicles included were manufactured at the Berkely Co Plant between September 2018 and April 1 2019. The reason for the recall is the rear suspension toe link flange lock nuts may have not been tightened enough which could result in sudden change in how the vehicle handles when in motion. The official recall campaign is slated to begin June 21 with Volvo beginning to reach out to Volvo owners. Owners of cars affected will be able to have the issue fixed, free of charge at their local dealership. For questions, owners can reach Volvo Customer Service at 800-458-1552, with a recall notice number of R19938.
Hyundai has announced a recall affecting over 12,000 Veloster Models from the 2019 model year. Affected vehicles have a faulty driver door latch that, if involved in a side-impact crash, could open on its own, which could result in increased risk of injury to the driver. The problem with the 2019 Hyundai Veloster’s was discovered by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as they were conducting side-impact crash tests on the 2019 model. During this test, “the door latch housing and locking cable became damaged causing the door to open,” NHTSA said in the safety recall report. Following this issue, Hyundai tried to replicate the issue but could not produce the same results. However, out of an abundance of caution they can working on a fix to improve the locking mechanism. At the time of publication, Hyundai is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this recall. Consumers who have a 2019 Model Veloster should check to see if the vehicle they have affected.
Back in the news is Fiat Chrysler over a continued recall issue with Ram Tracks. Nearly a year ago, the company recalled roughly 1.6 million Ram trucks over an issue with the locking power tailgate. However, at the time in the recall, the affected models included the Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 from 2015 to 2017. Fiat Chrysler is now including the Ram models that have eight-foot beds which includes an additional 410,351 more trucks into the recall pool. While the issue with the affected models was fixed for the shorter-bed models, the redesigned part wasn’t included on the longer bed models until April 2018, thus affecting the eight-foot bed models from the 2015 model year until a production date of April 1, 2018. The company has stated they are unaware of any accidents or injuries that are related to the power lift gate recall and are also reimbursing any owners who had repairs made to address the problem prior to the recall notice.
Mitsubishi Motors announced today that it is recalling over 26,000 vehicles due to faulty airbags that might not deploy in the event of a crash. The vehicles affected in the recall include the 2017 and 2018 model Mitsubishi Mirage G4. The reason for the recall has been linked to faulty software that could end up disabling all seven of the vehicle’s airbags. Airbags are vital to occupant safety in the event of a crash so 2017/2018 Mirage owners should have their vehicles checked or call their local dealership if they are not sure if their vehicle is affected. In some cases, owners of the 2017 or 2018 Mirage may notice that the airbag warning light, labeled SRS, stays illuminated after the vehicle has been powered on. At the time of publication, Mitsubishi says it is unaware of any injuries related to this specific recall. Previously, a different recall was issued in 2018 for the Mirage hatchback version.
